| Canon EOS 5D Mark II |
| Feature Highlights 21.1 Megapixel Full-frame sensor using DIGIC 4 Image Processor. Full HD Video Capture at 1920 x 1080 resolution. 3.9 fps continuous shooting with a 150,000 cycle shutter. ISO range of 100-6400 (expandable L: 50, H1: 12800 and H2: 25600). Live View for stills and video (video only works with live view). User Rating is 9.3 (out of 10) with over 150 total reviews. Pros: The most loved feature is the high ISO performance in low light situations. A close second is the video feature, however, the video is loved because of the high ISO performance. The other great video feature is being able to have the same shallow DOF (depth of field) as photos. There were also many comments that the WB (white balance) performance is improved. Cons: The most hated defect is the poor AF (auto focus) performance in low light and sports photography. Only the center point seems usable. The second common negative comment was about the low FPS when cheaper cameras have much higher. The negative aspects of the video feature is no auto focus and poor sound recording performance. Usage: Most photographers say they use the 5D Mark II for Landscape, Portraits, and Architecture photos. Hollywood has used the video feature for shots with small space and to get the shallow DOF look. Conclusion: The camera has two main limitations that affect the average photographer and they are the poor AF performance and the lack of auto focus while shooting video. If you can live with those, this is a great camera. This is NOT a sports photography camera, but it does take great landscape and portrait photos. Manual focus is preferred by most professional videographers so they can control the transitions to different focus points. Professional videographers also use external digital sound recorders and mix with the video later on the computer. The work around methods actually create a more professional look to your final product. Source: Fred Miranda Product Review |
